A Jewish Heritage Tour to Poland: Our Visits to Piotrkow Trybunalski
Viktor Feldmann, Copenhagen /Denmark
and Jan Schwarz, Malmö / Sweden
As descendants of Piotrkow Trybunalski on our fathers’ side, Viktor Feldmann and Jan Schwarz have participated in an organized weekend tour to a middle size Polish-Jewish community that flourished for generations until its destruction in the Holocaust.
We will tell about our experiences from visiting Piotrkow with a group of Jewish survivors, and second and third generation in 2012 and 2014 (Jan) and 2016 (Viktor). Piotrkow is the birthday place of the former chief rabbi of Israel, Israel Meir Lau. While showing photographs from our trips, we will answer the following questions: What is the purpose of visiting your Jewish father’s ancestral town? What did we learn on the trip? What is the significance and future of Jewish heritage tours?
